Abstract

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has been explored for different clinical conditions, including chronic pain. In Brazil, there are still few materials based on ACT for this population. The objective of the study was to adapt it to the Brazilian population and seek evidence of content validity of the Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQ) instrument in its full (20 items) and brief (8 items) versions. The process of cross-cultural adaptation of the CPAQ to Brazil was carried out through six stages: translation, synthesis, reverse translation, evaluation by expert judges, evaluation of the target population and evaluation of the original author of the instrument. After the adaptation process was completed, the evidence of content validity was evaluated using the Content Validity Coefficient (CVC) for clarity, pertinence and relevance. The Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQBr) was adapted into Brazilian Portuguese. Both the CPAQ-20Br and CPAQ-8br set of items resulted, for the most part, in CVC above 0.90, which indicates content validity. Only item 18 obtained a CVC lower than 0.80 in the clarity dimension. The CPAQ-Br has been adapted and has preliminary evidence of validity for use in the chronic pain population in the country.
